Supporting Young Canadians with Cystic Fibrosis
BioGuard, one of Canada's premier supplier of pool and spa care products, is partnering with the Cystic Fibrosis Canada in an effort to support young Canadians in their fight against CF. CFCs life-saving research and treatment programs benefit communities across Canada.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common, fatal inherited disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. CF attacks primarily the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, the effects of the disease are most devastating; and with time, respiratory problems become increasingly severe. In the digestive tract, CF blocks the absorption of adequate vitamins and nutrients from food.

Meet Madison, a Young Canadian with Cystic Fibrosis
Nine-year-old Madison is one of approximately 3,500 young Canadians with cystic fibrosis. Like any girl her age, she's active and enjoys activities such as swimming at her local pool. This kind of exercise is critical to people who have cystic fibrosis. Like many people with cystic fibrosis who have digestive problems, Madison must take enzymes with every meal and snack (about 20 pills a day) to help her absorb adequate nutrients from food.

The Foundation’s primary goal is to find a cure or an effective control for cystic fibrosis. When the CFC was established in 1960, most children with cystic fibrosis were not expected to live long enough to attend kindergarten; today, half of all Canadians with CF are living into their late 30s and even beyond; a tremendous accomplishment, but not nearly enough.
